The Lord’s Protection

A local priest emerged miraculously unscathed after his car was run over by a train near Bialystok on Saturday. Leszek T., who was legally drunk at the time of the accident, was treated for minor bruises in a local hospital. “It’s a miracle,” one eyewitness told the Super Express daily. “When I saw that the car had no front left, and the engine was lying 20 metres away, I thought ‘massacre’.”
Tests showed the 63-year old priest had more than 1 ppm of alcohol in his bloodstream. “He was probably on his way to me, but must have got waylaid somewhere,” said Leszek T.’s brother, who lives in a nearby town.

Driven Mad

Warsaw’s worst traffic blackspot in coming weeks is almost certain to be at the Zeslancow Syberyjskich roundabout by the Dworzec Zachodni bus and train station on the al. Jerozolimskie western approach road. Waiting times at the roundabout last Saturday reached more than half an hour, as roadworkers began the final stages of a new intersection structure. “At
5 p.m. I had to wait more than 40 minutes to get through the crossing by bus,” writes NWE reader Joanna Kowalska. “Avoid it at all costs.” The chaos at the crossing, which brings together shoppers heading to the Reduta shopping centre with traffic to the large commuter zones west of the city, will continue for at least another six weeks. The three-level crossing, including a flyover and underpass, is not due for completion until the end of August.
